A snake in our yard! Come an’ look!”  I was pretty confident that he had NOT seen a snake, but figured I’d better check out whatever he was so worked up about.

Apparently he had never observed a snail before and he was COMPLETELY FASCINATED.  He wanted to know all about them.  Especially the trail of slime.

Look at that snail, running for his life.  Don’t worry, we politely returned him to a bush when we were done observing (we only kill spiders, and sometimes ants).  I know my mom is laughing right now because I used to tell her, “Snails are my friends!” and make little homes for them.

PS- I was planning to add a bunch more funnies to this post, but WordPress is giving me trouble this week and won’t save drafts, so I lost a bunch of work. :(   Hopefully more blogs coming soon!

]]> http://thetoads.hawkbats.com/2011/09/01/my-funny-kids/feed/ 3 Photo Hike http://thetoads.hawkbats.com/2011/07/19/photo-hike/ http://thetoads.hawkbats.com/2011/07/19/photo-hike/#comments Wed, 20 Jul 2011 04:12:13 +0000 Mollie http://thetoads.hawkbats.com/?p=2090 Our favorite weekend family activity these days is hiking.  The kids absolutely love it- they  run and climb and throw rocks and chase lizards until they are exhausted and sleep REALLY well that night!  My ulterior motive is turning these “nature walks” into “photography walks”.  I’m trying to scout good locations around Camarillo, since I’m hoping to test the waters of taking on my own photography clients for photo shoots by the end of the year!  The lighting wasn’t perfect since it was a little early in the evening, but I suppose that is good practice for me as well.  What do you think?  Does this place have potential for family photos?

P.S.– Natalie would want you to know that those are not tights or leg warmers on her legs, they are “bug protectors” which are very important when hiking!

I frequently dress the family in coordinating outfits, completely unintentionally.  Last Sunday we were walking up to church when I realized that both Natalie and I were wearing skinny jeans, silver colored shoes, blue ruffled tops, and cardigans!  When we got home I took a picture to mark the occasion, as I usually try to do when that sort of thing happens.

 
A couple weeks before I snapped this one of the kids on our way out the door to a playdate, wearing complimenting outfits (again, I do not do this on purpose, and usually it is someone else who points it out to me!):

We  have our little buddy Will on Mondays and we all enjoy his company!

Perks include enjoying these birthday presents from my friends Hannah and Tiffany, who obviously have me completely figured out;  and my little dishwasher-in-training (I have high hopes for him).

Apparently the new baby of Brad Paisley (country singer) and Kimberly Williams (loved her in Father of the Bride) could be Ben’s twin! I think the resemblance is pretty striking… what do you think?

Natalie was wearing my “Mommy Race Medal”, as she calls it.  She loves to wear that thing and pretends she is starting a race, crouching down and saying “set… GO!”  before running off.   It’s a 3rd place medal for a 5K run I did last October.    I ran that race when I was 3 months pregnant with Ben, and  got a horrible time (I don’t even remember!), but hey I still placed!  What you need to know is that I NEVER win any prizes in all these races I run, this is literally the only one I’ve ever received.  As usual, we left before they announced the winners,  but a friend who was also running picked mine up for me and brought it over later that day.  It took me about an hour to notice it wasn’t a participation prize, it actually had “Mollie Wilkinson, 3rd place, Women 20-24″ engraved on it.  I was laughing the rest of the day week over the fact that my one and only prize for running came when I was slow and pregnant (obviously there was a shortage of 20-24 year olds in that race).

Natalie seems very impressed when I tell her about it, but she wasn’t at the time.  You can’t really tell in this picture that was taken after the race, but she was super grumpy at us for getting her up so early.

I am currently training for my first 10K run since Ben was born, so wish me luck.  I will definitely not be winning any prizes in that one, it is a much bigger race and I did just have a baby 2 months ago!
