September Summary

Posted Monday, September 28th, 2009 by Mollie

The month of September has been very busy for us, hence the lack of blogging!  We have been settling into our fall routine nicely though, enjoying a little more structure than we had in the summer.   Natalie is loving playdates, preschool, her craft class, and anything that involves going to church.   She’s learning to have a good attitude, even when it’s time to go home.  Ben is just happy to be along for the ride.   He’s learning to crawl.  I am staying more than busy being coordinator of MOPS at our church and training for a marathon in my rare “spare” time (usually involves getting up at 5:30 AM to run before the day’s activities start, not sure if that counts as spare).   I am learning to be more efficient during the day because there is only so long I can function on 5  hours of sleep per night!  I think Andy just looks forward to the end of the work day when we can have family time, as well as hanging out with extended family and friends lately.   We are blessed with so many great people to spend time with!  He is a great dad and plays along with all of Natalie’s crazy imaginary games.

If  you set Ben down on the ground he will immediately pop up into his crawling position and rock back and forth.  He can’t wait to get moving!

I am not good enough to use my camera on full manual mode yet, but I shoot in aperture mode a lot and sometimes it really pays off.  This picture turned out just how I wanted it, captured the colors nice and crisp and clear!  I couldn’t believe it was this good SOOC (straight out of camera).

This picture is funny because it is so true-to-life.  There’s a bug that’s landed on Natalie’s face, and Ben is stuffing grass in his mouth.  I was just trying to get a picture of all 3 of us and our blue eyes!  Ben’s and mine are the exact same color.  Nata’s are more bright.

Celeb-baby Look-a-like

Have you ever been standing in line at the grocery store, glanced over at the tabloids, and thought, “Is that MY kid???” That happened to me on Saturday when I saw the cover of the latest People magazine. Apparently the new baby of Brad Paisley (country singer) and Kimberly Williams (loved her in Father of the Bride) could be Ben’s twin! I think the resemblance is pretty striking… what do you think?

First Day of School

Posted Saturday, September 12th, 2009 by Mollie

This year we are participating in a home school preschool co-op for Natalie! There are five moms and we will take turns teaching and hosting the classes at our houses. It began this week and I think Natalie did really well. The teacher of the day said that Natalie was “hilarious” so I think that’s a positive thing. :) She didn’t want to leave, so I know she had a good time! Wow, does this make me a home school mom already??  Time sure flies!

Enjoying the Fruits of our Labor on Labor Day

Posted Tuesday, September 8th, 2009 by Mollie

Are you wondering what ever happened to our tidy little garden?  Right now it looks like a tangled jungle of zucchini and tomato plants– wow, those things can really grow.  The zucchini has been steadily producing 2-3 fruits a week for us all summer long, which has been wonderful, as it is a family favorite!  When California got it’s heat wave a few weeks ago, the grape tomatoes finally turned red.  I love putting lots of  them in salads, and Natalie is happy to just pop them in her mouth.  (Andy still maintains that he does not like the taste of plain tomatoes in a salad.  How sad for him!)

This week we picked a large bag full of Roma tomatoes.  It seemed like they all ripened at once, and we had to figure out what on earth to do with all of them this Labor Day weekend!

Andy made salsa… it tasted amazing!  I made tomato sauce and used it to make three dishes of lasagna.  Not bad!  The extra effort of growing our own vegetables has actually been so much fun.  I think we’d like to be farmers “when we grow up”. :)
